The Corona-Norco Unified School District has generously provided some H1N1 Guidance for Parents as follows...
What are some common influenza symptoms? Symptoms can include, but are not limited to, fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headaches, chills and fatigue.
If your student has any influenza-like symptoms, should they go to school? No, they should stay home and, if necessary, seek medical advice from your health care provider. Children or staff should be sent home if they become ill while at school.
Is a medical clearance required for the student to return to school? No. Medical clearance is not required in order to return to school. Students should stay home until at least 24 hrs after their temperature first remained normal without the use of medications. Students may have residual cough for several weeks following symptoms, but are not considered contagious and can return to school.
Will the school notify parents of a H1N1 case at their students' school? No. According to the Riverside County Health Department, the schools should treat H1N1 cases the same as any other influenza virus. We do not have the ability to validate or confirm H1N1 cases.
When is a school supposed to close due to H1N1 cases? The Riverside County Health Department receives the results of all positive H1N1 cases and will direct us if it is necessary to close a particular school. The decision comes from the Health Department.
What are some basic preventative measures for your student?
- Washing hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough orsneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
- Avoid contact with sick people.
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
