(BUILT IN) (Icons/Graphics) Doctor1.jpgRain has come early this year and with the change of seasons, that can often mean cold and flu season. I have found that rather than getting sick all at one time, my kids and husband prefer to stagger it so that we spend the next several week passing the flu around. With the swine flu continuing to affect people across the country, it is more important than ever to have your child checked by their pediatrician when they get sick.

It's that time of year to make some health decisions...

  • Do you get a seasonal flu shot for yourself?
  • Do your children get a flu shot or would that require bribery beyond what you can afford?
  • Do you brave the elements and give coughing passerby the stink-eye, or do you lock your family indoors with bottles of hand sanitizer?

This year we are facing a NEW question: Do you get the new H1N1 vaccine? Do your research and decide what is best for your family! Read the article below H1N1 Guidance For Parents from the Corona-Norco Unified School District to help you determine if it's Swine Flu or not.

(BUILT IN) (Icons/Graphics) PinkRibbonX.jpgThis month is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in women in the United States. (Skin cancer is #1.) According to the American Cancer Society, an estimated 192,370 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed among women in the United States this year. Ladies, this is a friendly reminder to those of you who need mammograms to be sure to you schedule your screenings as indicated by your physician. I just got mine exam scheduled, how about you?

This is the season when events abound. We have been adding numerous events everyday and we are proud to say that the Annual Events Calendar is PACKED full of family fun! Just look for the Pumpkin if you are looking for something Fall or Halloween related and don't forget to share you events by posting theme here! <<Submit Event>>

Have a wonderful weekend!

  H1N1 Guidance for Parents

The Corona-Norco Unified School District has generously provided some H1N1 Guidance for Parents as follows...

What are some common influenza symptoms?  Symptoms can include, but are not limited to, fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headaches, chills and fatigue.

If your student has any influenza-like symptoms, should they go to school? No, they should stay home and, if necessary, seek medical advice from your health care provider. Children or staff should be sent home if they become ill while at school.

Is a medical clearance required for the student to return to school? No. Medical clearance is not required in order to return to school. Students should stay home until at least 24 hrs after their temperature first remained normal without the use of medications. Students may have residual cough for several weeks following symptoms, but are not considered contagious and can return to school.

Will the school notify parents of a H1N1 case at their students' school? No. According to the Riverside County Health Department, the schools should treat H1N1 cases the same as any other influenza virus. We do not have the ability to validate or confirm H1N1 cases.

When is a school supposed to close due to H1N1 cases? The Riverside County Health Department receives the results of all positive H1N1 cases and will direct us if it is necessary to close a particular school. The decision comes from the Health Department.

What are some basic preventative measures for your student?

  • Washing hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough orsneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
  • Avoid contact with sick people.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
